Human Resources Administration Building (BMWTD #1)

Hello, friends. I am currently attending the University of California, Davis. If you didn't know, UC Davis has the largest campus of any University of California, and on the UC Davis map, there are 258 buildings that are listed. I, being the crazy person that I am, have decided to visit every single one of those buildings and blog about them. I hope you enjoy.

Human Resources Administration Building

Today I went to the Human Resources Administration Building, which is where you go to get a job at UC Davis. You go there to get information on the different positions, salaries, and benefits at UC Davis. 

This building is on Orchard Road next to the Health and Wellness Center and across the street from several fraternities and sororities. 

To catch rain, the building used those strange drain pipes with the chains running down the side of the building, so at first glance, the building looked slightly like a old fashion prison that you could enter but never leave.

The funny thing, though, was that I wasn't sure if I could even enter the building at all because each door had a little sign on it telling you to enter through another door. I know the sign above says to use the main entrance, but even the main entrance had one of these signs on it.

Even if the signs weren't there, the building was all locked up and seemed to be deserted, probably because it was a weekend, but there were also some bikes inside, so I was a little confused.

I took a picture of myself in front of the building. I look all angry in the picture because some guy on a bike was looking at me funny, so I had to look like I was doing something serious so he wouldn't be too suspicious.

Even though I wasn't able to go into the building, I think that my visit, as a whole, was a success, because in the end, I saw some turkeys in the parking lot and chased them around for a while.

The Philippines - Days 1

In November of 2010, my family went on a trip to the Philippines. The reason was partly to sight-see, by mostly to visit family. Half of my family lives in the Philippines, and I haven't seen any of them since I was 3, so I had a lot of catching up to do with them.

November 12th 2010; 4:14am (Philippines Time)

We are in Manila after flying through Hawaii. My ears are plugged from the last plane ride and I can only hear a little. We are about to fly to Cagayan and then drive to Abulug. That's about it.

November 12th 2010; 7:51pm (Philippines Time)

Today, we flew to Tuguegarao, where we me our uncle, two of our aunts, and one of our cousins. Then we drove to Abulug and met five more of our cousins, our most closely related aunt in the Philippines, and our uncle. We went out with our uncle to harvest coconuts and we caught frogs and snails in the rice field. We then had fresh coconut milk. The kids found that my older sister is afraid of spiders and went around chasing her while saying "Spider!" or "Lawalawa!" It was hilarious. I feel kind of sick, having a stuffed nose, plugged ears, and major jet-lag. I told my dad that if I could learn drive in Tuguegarao or Manila, I could drive anywhere. The lines on the street in these places are optional and almost completely ignored.

College Road Trip -Days 3 & 4

On days two and three of the College Road Trip were the first official days of seeing colleges. We saw UC San Diego and UC Irvine.

We finally made it to one of the colleges on our list of colleges to go to. We made it to UC San Diego. UC Merced is puny compared to UC San Diego. I liked the fact that UC San Diego is broken into 6 different colleges based on your wants for your classes. I also liked the Geisel Library, the buildings, and the fact that you can sign up for a radio slot. We went to a restaurant called Currants and then drove down to Irvine. Too bad we are miss Comic Con by only one week

Today we made our way to UC Irvine. UC Irvine is one of the most fun colleges because it has an Ant Eater as its mascot. It had a nice eating area out behind the student center. It also had a nice fine arts area which was design by the architect of the Vietnam Memorial. My dad can still remember where the Starbucks was located. We also started heading towards Santa Barbara. On our way, we stopped at one of the friends of our family on our mother's side. We met them, saw there humongous garden, and then went to dinner with them. It was a long, but fun day.

College Road Trip -Days 1 & 2

From the 17th to the 23rd of July of this year, my family and I went on a road trip to see some of the colleges on the list of colleges my sister wanted to go to. The first two days were the days that we spent driving from Sacramento to San Diego.

We are in Bakersfield, California on Day 1 of my older sister's college road trip. Today we are just driving down, but we have already starting to see colleges. We saw UC Merced as we drove and gave it a quick walk-through. It is on a pretty plot of land and looks somewhat like Folsom Lake College, but with modern art and a small river around the outside of it. Unfortunately, it is in the middle of nowhere.

We are on Day 2 of the college road trip, but we saw no colleges today. After leaving Bakersfield, we went down to San Diego, but we went through the Mojave Desert, where we saw nothing but trains, windmills, and Joshua Trees. (There was seriously nothing but shrubs and a whole bunch of windmills out there in the desert. It was a very good time to just listen to music or watch a movie. My mom was the only one really interested in the desert because she loved the Joshua Trees.)

"Now, boy," said Hook, his gun still pointed at Rabk's face. "Where is Peter?" Rabk rolled his eyes. "Don't you get the fact that I don't know where Peter is or who he is?" "Don't you get the fact that I have twenty men ready to shoot you if you don't tell me where Peter is?" Beowulf raised his hand like a shy schoolchild. "OK, I'm sure there is a better way of handling this situation." Hook turned and pointed his pistol at Beowulf. "Quiet, you! I'll deal with your predicament after I'm finished with my current patient." Taking the opportunity of having Hook's head turned, Rabk drew his sword and hit Hook on the head with it. As Hook, once again, fell unconscious, Rabk grabbed him and held Hook in front of himself. All Hook's men had their guns turned towards Rabk now. "Put down your weapons!" yelled Rabk, putting his sword to Hook's neck, "Or I'll kill him!" The surprised men slowly put their guns to the ground and put their hands in the air. Rabk looked at Burt and Beowulf and nodded. All three ran off trough the hoard of pirates, leaving Hook to fall to the ground. The pirates immediately grabbed their guns and shot after the three travellers. "You better have a plan!" yelled Beowulf. "Nonsense," replied Rabk, "People in books always make daring escapes!" "Sorry to interrupt," put in Burt, "But those pirates don't care about daring escapes, and now their chasing us!" After a couple minutes of running and letting Rabk think, Beowulf yelled at him, "Well?" Rabk swallowed and replied, "We'll just keep running and hope for a miracle!" "Oh, so heroic!" said Beowulf, rolling his eyes. Suddenly, four giant turtles and a green thing hopped out of the forest trees. The four turtles were just in ninja gear and started fighting the pirates off. Whenever they hit someone, a giant onomatopoeia in all-caps appeared in the sky. All the green thing did was get up, brush himself off and look at them. He had only one large eye in the middle of his head. He waved and said "Hi! I'm Mike Wazowski!" Then the green thing ran off. Rabk didn't notice the green thing, though, he just smiled and stared at the turtles. He had watched them on TV when he was a child. After the last of the pirates ran off, the turtles turned and said "Cowabunga, dude!" Beowulf looked at them in a strange way. "And who are you?" "Dude!" responded one of the turtles, "We're teenage, mutant, and ninjas! What do you think? And what are you doing here dudes?" "We are trying to find the library." said Burt cautiously. "Dude!" said another turtle, "Your so close to it! C'mon! We'll bring you there!" So off they group went, following the turtles, and soon, the forest disappeared and a city appeared. Suddenly, on a small street, the turtles stopped. "Here we are, dudes!" "What?" said Burt, looking at the small, pink cottage they had stopped next to. "This is the great library? The one that holds every book ever written?" Beowulf, looking up, said "Burt, I think that we are under the library. Burt looked up and found a skyscraper, hovering sideways above their heads.

Youth at Work

Youth Group Work Day

Today was the last official work day for my youth group. So far, we have had three work days over the past two weeks. Our youth group is having a missions trip to Shonto, Arizona, on an Indian Reservation, where we help people there to fix, build, and paint buildings down there. To prepare for the trip, we were required to spend at least one day helping to work at our church. Our job was to clear the cut down all the weeds in the 2 and 1/2 acres behind our church within the three 4 hour periods we had to work on it. To do this, we had three main jobs assigned to us. The first job was to weed-whack, or cut down the weeds. We did this with the church owned weed-whackers, some of which didn't even work. The second job was to rake all the weeds cut down into piles, so that the third group could get all the weeds into bags. Three days we worked, and although we did not accomplish our goal of cutting down all the weeds, we did very good for a small group of teenagers with a few weed-whackers that hardly worked.We will probably have some more work days to finish the job, but we will probably only need 1 or 2 more days before it is finished.

Interesting Rain

When a person lives in a place like El Dorado Hills, you don't really get to experience extreme weather, but this week has been one of the craziest weather weeks that I have ever experienced here. On the this last Monday, the 26th, the weather seemed nice and normal. Nothing new, just sun and sky, but the next day, there was a dramatic change in weather. From the nice, sunny Monday, there came a dreary, wet, and rainy Tuesday. Even though I thought that the rain was bad enough, the weather got worse. During lunch that day, I sat happily in a classroom, free from the wetness of the rain, but I didn't know what the bell for 6th period would bring. When the bell rang, me and a friend, as usual. went out the classroom's back door into the auto shop garage. Because the garage doors were open, I could hear the tapping of the rain on the cars parked outside. Although I expected this, I thought that the rain was a little loud. When my friend and I were under the awning, my suspicions of hard rain were confirmed when I saw a small creek running down into the garage. Unfortunately, my 6th period classroom was on the other side of the school. I went into the rain and was immediately soaked by the rain. Ignorantly, my friend and I didn't run to our next class, but just walked. That was a huge mistake. The upper parking lot, which we had to walk through, was like a small pond, and when we had to go down from the upper parking lot, we had to go down a set of stairs, which actually seemed more like a waterfall. There was a wall of water at the edge of the roof on each building. My 6th period teacher was standing under the awning watching his class come in from the rain. He had to let us take off our shoes and drop all our stuff in a pile near the back of the classroom. The rest of this week was on and off rain and sun, but I still find stuff at the bottom of my backpack that are still wet.

The Different Types of Friction

Rabk’s Depressingly Strange Day

There was once a person named Rabk Doomfish and he lived in the town of El Dorado Hills. In his house, Rabk had a room covered in wallpaper, and when Rabk got tired of the wallpaper, he went outside of his room. One time when he got tired of his wallpaper, he decided to go to the park. On his way there, a squirrel popped into existence right in front of him, about 5 ft of the ground. It hovered in the air for a second and then fell with a crash onto the sidewalk. Then, a small skateboard rolled up to the squirrel who immediately got up and rolled off on it. Bewildered by this strange event, Rabk kept walking to the park. When he got there, he saw Bigfoot, who was trying to knock over a tree. After a couple minutes, Bigfoot pushed too hard, hit his head on the tree. Bigfoot fell over, unconscious, on the ground. Just afterwards, a small mouse came up and tried to topple the tree. Although he didn’t knock it over, he did get it to slide all the way onto the sidewalk, where a jogger promptly ran into it. Rabk shook his head in disbelief and walked over to the fountain in the middle of the park. He fished around in his pocket and when he found a penny, he threw it into the fountain and said, “I wish all these strange things would stop happening.” Unfortunately, that wish did not come true. The water in the fountain started to over flow and so much water came out that Rabk slipped and was being carried away. As he was being washed about he looked over and saw Genghis Khan, in full uniform, swimming the other way. After a while, the water went away, and Rabk got up to find himself completely dry and in front of his house. He decided to go back into his room to get some rest and clear his mind, but then a Pterodactyl flew overhead and dropped some dynamite on his house.
